Staff Facts
- Canada's only bilingual, multidisciplinary performing arts centre, the National Arts Centre is composed of the following departments: Programming (which includes Dance & Variety, Touring & Special Projects, Music, English Theatre, French Theatre and Production); Marketing & Development; Strategy & Communications; Human Resources, Operations, Finance and Food Services, all reporting to the President and CEO.
- The National Arts Centre is governed by a 10-person national Board of Trustees. Eight appointments to the Board are Order-in-Council appointments, made by the Privy Council Office. The two remaining appointments are ex-officio appointments of the Mayors of the Cities of Ottawa and Hull. The Chair appointment is for 3 years and the member appointment is for 2 years. Both the Chair and the Board members can be re-appointed for another term.
- There are approximately 665 employees at the NAC - (250 full-time and 415 part-time). 77% of the work force is unionized, and represented by the following unions: Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) (local 70291), Hospitality and Service Trades Union (local 261), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) (locals 257, 471 and 890) and the Ottawa-Hull District Federation of Musicians (local 180)
- The National Arts Centre is also home to the 46-member internationally acclaimed National Arts Centre Orchestra, which is represented by the Ottawa-Hull District Federation of Musicians (local 180) of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada.
- As a crown corporation, the National Arts Centre is a private employer. Employees of the NAC are not federal public servants.
- An average NAC employee has worked 10 years and 63% of the work force is between the ages of 20-40. The demographic profile of the NAC work force is 60% is male and 40% is female. 60% of the employees are anglophones and 40 % are francophone.
